1968 Shelby GT350 VIN #: 8T03J192483-02201
1968 SHELBY GT350 8T03J180355 - 03058

This blue 1968 GT350 convertible is Shelby #3058. Sold new at Koons Ford in Falls Church, Virginia.  Originally ordered for a Washington DC diplomat who was recalled to his home country before he could take delivery. The car remained in dealer inventory until late in 1968, when it was sold to the current owner, who was then a young attorney from Richmond, Va. To date he is the car's only owner, who relates that he wanted a blue car, but the dealership offered a substantial discount on the white #3058, as it was November and  the 1969 Shelbys, an entirely new car, were scheduled to be available in January.

Koons allowed a discount of over $900 against the car's $5066 list price. The current owner took delivery on November 30, 1968 and has held #3058 ever since. Copies of the the dealer bill of sale, original title and owner's manual are available. The originals will go with the car, together with the complete service and repair history, meticulously maintained by the owner over the past almost 45 years. I have not yet looked for a build sheet and there are no other documents with the car beyond those mentioned. No Marti Report yet. Clean VA title.

Originally Wimbledon White with black interior and parchment top. Repainted in 1983 to Acapulco Blue metallic for the present owner.  At that time he also had the hood twist locks removed. Despite its appearance in the photos, the paint has various flaws and although presentable,  the car should be refinished.

#3058 was used as daily transportation for many years, and by 1983, was becoming worn with use. The current owner delivered the car that year to Conover Classic Restoration in Hanover, PA to have it redone. At that time, the exterior was changed to Acapulco Blue, the color he had preferred many years earlier. The work was done to a driver quality level and the standards of the times, which are below those of today in terms of fit, finish and detailing.  Receipts are available detailing the extent of the work.

In 2011, #3058 was returned to Conover Restorations, this time for a comprehensive refresh of its mechanicals. Receipts for this work are also available, the cost of which was almost as much as the overall restoration of 28 years earlier.

#3058 is equipped with 4 speed, factory air, tilt/flip steering wheel, AM radio and retains its original steel wheels with covers. The car has been very well kept mechanically. I have driven it and it is very satisfactory in that regard - runs and stops well, and drives quite smoothly with good road feel. Current VA safety inspection. The air conditioning and flip away feature on steering wheel do not work.

The body received various metal work as part of the 1983 restoration. Quarters and some floor areas were replaced. Fiberglass is original throughout. A white convertible top with plastic rear window is presently fitted. The top is in good condition and operates smoothly, but the rear window is split and must be replaced. The interior upholstery was partially replaced and is very nice. The dash bright plastic trim is original and very worn looking.

The engine is original with VIN stamp, carb is a replacement Holley on the original Cobra aluminum intake and correct steel bottom air filter, C8ZF-A distributor, fan, radiator, etc. Factory steel wheels including spare, with original spoke style covers. All tags are intact - VIN, door, dash & buck but the main VIN tag is not stamped in the usual raised style. The reason for this is not known.

On display at my showroom now.

Price $69,500.
