This GT500 is what we used to call a "sleeper", which is a car that looks stock but unleashes furious performance when provoked. That was the owner's goal in building this Shelby, and I can say it certainly delivers!
The build was accomplished between 1998 and 2001. The paint and body were professionally done, finished in Wimbledon White with blue Lemans stripes. Factory style Mag Star wheels complete the effect. The underneath was left undetailed, as this GT500 was constructed principally to be driven, and driven hard.
So the originality fans can step aside on this one - it is a 600HP beast with a Doug Nash 5 speed and 4:11 Detroit Locker rear. The side oiler 427FE has been taken out to 455 inches and topped with Edelbrock aluminum heads and intake. Two 650 cfm carbs are fed by dual Holley electric pumps mounted in the trunk ahead of the fuel cell. A stout Crane cam with roller rockers delivers an authoritative idle and allows high RPM's, supported by a full MSD ignition system.
But no concern about spinning it hard with a 20 quart dry sump keeping everything lubricated, and a blow proof bellhousing shielding the Center Force dual friction clutch. The custom fabricated drive shaft is fitted with a safety loop. Fuel and oil are all plumbed with Aeroquip lines.
Things keep cool with an oversized aluminum radiator and two electric fans. Exhaust is via Hooker headers with 3 inch outlets flowing into a custom 2 1/2 inch diameter system with Flowmaster mufflers.
Handling is controlled by Koni shocks, custom front and rear sway bars and frame connectors. 4 wheel disc brakes with slotted rotors stop it quickly.
You can go "Eleanor hunting" with this car - and watch the reaction when their movie prop gets dusted by a "stock" Shelby.
